This has been years in the making. This city really is the gateway to the west, starting at the Mississippi and extending as far as the eye can see (which isn't far, because it's pretty flat.) David Hennessy and I restarted this one over 3 times before we found a composition that provided the right aesthetic-to-orientation balance.

ABOUT THE IDEA
Information is more fun to read when it's beautiful. I've designed these charts and maps with hours of research, reassembling data into a brain-friendly aesthetic. I edit the information significantly, avoiding the "dazzle" effect which occurs when our eyes are battered with too much information. Letterpress makes it even more gorgeous.
