The beach and the city are perfectly intertwined in this metropolis. My favorite piece of trivia included in this map is "stiltsville", a series of buildings (mostly bars) that once stood, accessible only by boat, hovering over the bay. Multiple hurricanes eventually destroyed them, but the symbolism of the city extending into the ocean, albeit on stilts, is totally romantic to me. Of course, the city on dry land still stands as a monument to all things quintessentially Miami.
